Manufacturers build C/U lines in two ways. The first is a double forming channel: two sets of forming stations run side by side inside one frame, each producing one profile continuously. The second is a single channel with quick-change tooling: the same stations form the stud, then the roller sets are changed over to form the track. This layout is compact and is the typical choice for plants running at 10–40 m/min. In both designs a PLC (Siemens or Mitsubishi) controls the line, and a hydraulic cutter cuts each profile to the programmed length automatically. If your plan is one profile, one product, running in continuous shifts, a dedicated line wins. With nothing to change over, the machine runs at its top stable speed all day, and there is no risk of misaligned tooling after a change. The same applies to heavy structural work: at 0.8–1.2 mm, the mechanical design differs so much from light drywall that a combined line is rarely the right compromise. For most fabricators, however, the combined machine is the better business case, because order sizes fluctuate and the ability to switch profiles is worth more than peak speed.
